As professionals working with children and teens, we are aware of the critical importance of sleep on a child’s daily performance. But how much do we truly know about sleep and its effect on brain development? Do we have the facts to share with parents and professionals that can specifically influence changes in sleep habits?  This fast-moving, 1-hour course provides an overview of how sleep specifically affects brain development and daily function, identifies key risk factors for sleep disturbance and disorders, and provides tips and resources to share with parents and professionals immediately. Lori provides professionals with practical, manageable strategies to help families develop and maintain sound sleep hygiene habits.

  1. Recognize regions of the developing brain most affected by sleep.
  2. Identify sleep deficits in terms of behavioral and cognitive performance.
  3. Describe risk factors for poor sleep in children and teens.
  4. Utilize strategies and interventions for establishing and maintaining healthy sleep habits for children and teens.
