Self-advocacy includes the ability to understand yourself and your surroundings and then communicate on your behalf. This process is as simple as choosing a sensory activity or as complex as advocating for services at a university. This critical skill is important for autonomy and independence. In this highly practical and extremely timely 90-minute course, participants learn the stages of self-advocacy as well as suggestions for strategies and activities for all ages and ability levels.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify the three key stages of self-advocacy.
- List activities for a wide range of activities and ability levels at each of the key stages.
- Describe resources for promoting self-advocacy in school, community, and clinic settings.
