Sensory-Based Feeding: Part 2—How to overcome visual, auditory, olfactory, and gustatory factors impacting feeding
Eating can be a challenging task for children with sensory processing difficulties and tweezing out the areas of need can be just as challenging for therapists and parents! This 2-hour webinar allows you to pinpoint how visual, auditory, olfactory, and gustatory factors can impact feeding. Tips and tricks on implementing practical strategies to address each of these areas are included, so children on your caseload start improving right away. This class includes case studies and a Q&A period.
- Select appropriate nonfood- and food-based visual activities to help children with visual sensitivities eat a wider variety of food shapes and colors.
- Choose specific cups that help ease transition from bottle to cup.
- Distinguish between signs indicating a child is sensitive to smells vs. flavors and how to improve the tolerance of new smells and flavors.
- Recognize symptoms indicating children may be under-responsive to gustatory input and select foods they may easily tolerate.
- Identify how your volume and cadence of speech helps children who are over- and under-responsive to auditory input have more success at meals.

Course Instructor: Becky Miksic, OTR/L, T-NLP, T-TET, CHt, has been supporting families to progress their children’s eating since 2002. She has worked in a variety of settings and has helped countless children to expand their food repertoire as well as transitioned tube fed children to oral feedings. Her company, End Picky Eating, focuses on home-based feeding therapy, remote consultations, and education for parents and professionals through webinars and live classes.

Post-Test: Before receiving a certificate, learners must take an objective post-test to demonstrate they acquired the learning outcomes. An attestation statement is included indicating the learner viewed the entire course and completed the post-test independently. A passing grade is ≥ 70%.
