Motor Labs, Sensory Paths, and Schoolwide Movement Initiatives

Every year, students exhibit increased motor skills, attention, visual skills, and behavior challenges. Research also indicates an increase in childhood obesity. School-based therapists have the expertise to increase participation in school routines and design programming to improve function and inclusion. They are responsible for collaborating with school partners to support student success and contribute to general and special education. Schoolwide movement initiatives, such as motor labs and sensory paths, may be added to the school environment to promote healthy school climates needed for learning. This 2-hour webinar reviews research that encourages using these programs, and provides specific strategies to add a motor lab or sensory path into your school or clinical environment!

Learning Outcomes

  1. List examples of schoolwide movement initiatives.
  2. State the difference between a motor lab and a sensory path.
  3. Describe the essential components of a motor lab.
  4. Identify options for designing a sensory path.
