2021 Summit: The Well-Rounded Therapist

This 7-hour webinar includes a variety of therapeutic topics with one goal in mind: to enhance therapeutic skills required for successful implementation of treatment strategies in the pediatric population to create a well-rounded therapist. The 2021 Summit addresses treatment strategies from six seasoned professionals on the topics of executive functioning skills, vestibular processing, proprioceptive strategies for self-regulation, oral motor strategies for feeding intervention, telehealth strategies for k-5, and work refusal in the pediatric population. Two, 30-minute Q&A sessions are included for interaction with presenters. Gwen Wild, MOT, OTR/L, is an experienced occupational therapist specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents diagnosed with autism and sensory processing disorders. Gwen is the creator of BrainWorks sensory diet tools. Although selling the business in October 2020, she remains with Sensational Brain as the AOTA CE Administrator. She currently works as an Intensive Support Specialist for a large educational service agency. Gwen presents to audiences nationwide on topics related to sensory modulation and self-regulation. Rachel Harrington, COTA/L, AC, began treating clients in 2014 as a pediatric occupational therapy assistant. She founded The Sensory Project, LLC, https://thesensoryproject.com in 2017. In October 2020, Gwen Wild handed her the reins of Sensational Brain LLC, in which she plans to expand and explore new courses, products, and more!

Dedicated to helping children with different abilities feel confident in their own skin, Rachel began her sensory journey by designing fashionable, innovative weighted vests to enable children to regulate their sensory needs, while fitting in with their peers. In addition, she co-hosts the podcast The Sensory Project Show to educate and equip parents, therapists, and educators with tools and information to understand sensory integration.

Along with colleague Jessica Hill, COTA/L, she founded The Sensory Project Club in 2019 https://www.thesensoryprojectclub.com, a membership-based website that provides in-depth training and resources relating to all things sensory. They recently published their Therapeutic Resource Guide, a 300-page E-Book, which provides downloadable, therapeutic tools and information with resources created initially for The Sensory Project Club.

Rachel is passionate about sharing her knowledge of sensory integration by participating in speaking engagements with nonprofit organizations, schools, childcare centers, and community events to increase early identification of sensory processing challenges.

Becky Miksic, OTR/L, T-NLP, T-TET, CHt, has been supporting families to progress their children’s eating since 2002.  She has worked in a variety of settings and has helped countless children to expand their food repertoire as well as transitioned tube fed children to oral feedings. Aditi Mehra, DHSc, OTR/L, received her Bachelors in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University in 1998 and her Doctorate in Health Sciences from Midwestern University, Illinois, in 2016. Since then, she has practiced as a pediatric OT in various settings such as early intervention, hand therapy, NICU, inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation, and schools. During her doctoral studies, Dr. Mehra pursued a certification in Applied Behavior Analysis to improve and enhance collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. Once she delved deeper into this field, she discovered Fit Learning, an academic program based on the principles of ABA designed to build fluency and address all differences in learning (executive functioning, ADHD. etc.). Dr. Mehra is currently the Director of Fit Learning Labs in the Chicagoland area and continues to practice OT in both schools and private teletherapy services. She is passionate about Interpersonal Education and strives to foster multidisciplinary collaboration among OTs and other allied health professionals.
