Dyspraxia, Developmental Coordination Disorder, and Academic Implications

Webinar Length (Hours):

Lori Benson Adams, MEd

Dyspraxia, Developmental Coordination Disorder, and Academic Implications

The Dyspraxia Foundation defines dyspraxia as a form of developmental coordination disorder that effects, in addition to motor coordination, the ability to plan, organize, and carry out movements and sequences of activities in everyday life activities. Not only effecting gross and fine motor skills, dyspraxia can also impact oral motor skills, reading, and perception and thought processes. This unique, 1.5-hour workshop digs deep into not only the motoric implications of dyspraxia, but also the co-existing challenges that can impact school-aged children.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Define Dyspraxia and Developmental Coordination Disorder.
  2. Communicate current research on causation and neurology involved.
  3. Evaluate formal and informal evaluation tools.
  4. Explore dyspraxia beyond motor implications.
  5. Articulate a wide range of strategies to support motor planning, cognitive sequencing, and independence within the classroom, clinic and home environments.
