First 1,000 Days of Life: The Impact of Early Intervention Strategies to Improve Health and Wellness Across the Lifespan

The first 1,000 days refers to a child’s life from day one of conception until the age of 2. This is a unique period of opportunity when the foundations of ideal neurodevelopment, growth, and health are established. Problematic and traumatic experiences during the first 1,000 days can have a life-long effect on their health and well-being. Targeted interventions during this period may play a vital role in reducing problematic behavioral, emotional, psychological, social, cognitive, and physical health outcomes throughout the lifespan. This 2-hour webinar introduces professionals to the research that supports the first 1,000 days of life, examines problematic factors and experiences that may occur during this critical stage of development, and explores interventions and strategies professionals can implement to promote healthy childhood development throughout the first 1,000 days of life. Empirically based research findings are highlighted throughout this training.

  1. Identify the definition of the First 1,000 days of life.
  2. State the problematic and concerning experiences that occur during the First 1,000 days of life and how they can contribute to poor health outcomes across the lifespan.
  3. List challenging experiences that occur during the First 1,000 days of life that may contribute to problematic behaviors later in life.
  4. Identify scientifically based research findings that discuss the development of a First 1,000 days of life-informed approach to intake, screening, and intervention across various therapeutic settings.
