Sensory Strategies at School: Quick, Equipment-Free Support for Classrooms

School-based OTs are often tasked with helping students regulate, attend, and participate in classroom activities. But let’s be honest: Many go-to sensory tools require special equipment, extra prep, or resources that aren’t available in busy classrooms. In this 2-hour training, you will learn how to deliver effective, classroom-ready sensory strategies that require minimal equipment. These are strategies you can teach to educators, embed into daily routines for the whole class, and use immediately to support students’ success. This course is designed for occupational therapy practitioners in the school setting who are ready to maximize their impact without relying on impractical equipment.

Learning Outcomes

  1. List three classroom-ready sensory strategies that improve focus without equipment.
  2. Identify two types of sensory processing challenges and their impact on learning and behavior.
  3. List three simple modifications that create sensory-friendly classrooms for all students’ needs.
  4. Identify two signs that a student may need more targeted sensory support or an OT evaluation.
