Q&A: Sensational Brain Controlled Research Study?

Question:

You conducted a controlled research study in 2014 that provided guidelines on the frequency of short and longer movement breaks for students of different ages. Was that study ever published? If not, do you have any other information? I need more information for our public school administrator who supports OT services and concepts.

Answer:

Yes! The International Journal of Special Education published our controlled research study titled “A Model for Classroom-Based Intervention for Children With Sensory Processing Differences” in July 2018. It is available for download on our website.

These three resources might be helpful as well:

  1. Meeting Sensory Needs in the General Education Classroom: In this view-on-demand webinar, we review our research results and details the program implementation.
  2. Neurochemistry: Impact on emotions and sensory processing: This recorded webinar reviews the neurotransmitters involved in modulation and behaviors. Neurochemistry is a complex topic. That being said, a solid understanding of the neurochemical basis of sensory processing helps immensely.
  3. Brain Breaks: Physical Activity and Brain Power Intersect:
GoNoodle’s white paper is helpful in making the case for the importance of movement breaks in the classroom. It may be helpful to you as well!
  4. Brain Breaks, Sensory Breaks, and Movement-Based Learning in the Classroom: This webinar presents evidence about the effect of movement on learning and behavior in the classroom. In addition, we include helpful resources to get you started right away.

I hope this helps! Let me know how your administrator receives this information!

Best Wishes,
Gwen
