Functional Vestibular-Ocular Skills in the School Setting

Occupational therapists are not always comfortable with evaluating and reporting on functional oculomotor skills. This course provides essential knowledge about the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) and how it impacts functional ocular motor skills in the school setting. Confidently evaluating the VOR helps ease report writing and treatment planning when addressing visual deficits. Use of videos, pictures, and case studies create a well-rounded understanding of the VOR and ocular motility. This 2-hour course improves the way occupational therapists gather and assess for visual information in school and clinic settings.

Learning Outcomes

  1. List two treatment strategies to improve VOR function.
  2. Identify how the vestibular ocular reflex relates to ocular motor skills and head control.
  3. State three clinical observations to assess vestibular-ocular deficits.
  4. Identify four areas of ocular-motor deficits that impact students in the school setting.
