Screen Time and the Developing Brain

The recently updated screen time and media usage recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization show renewed concern and interest about the way technology affects the developing brain. This fast-paced, 1-hour course shares new research on the risks and benefits of screen time at different stages of development, its impact on motor and communication skills, and provides strategies to share with families about taming the technology challenges often faced in homes everywhere.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify age-specific recommendations, concerns, and benefits related to the development of motor, social, and speech and language skills.
  2. List possible increased risk factors for children with special needs and developmental delays.
  3. State two strategies to support therapists and parents in managing and maximizing appropriate screen time with their children.
