Establishing Realistic Food Progressions for the Most Challenging Eaters

Do you have clients on the white diet of milk, yogurt, bread, cheese, and crackers? How do you progress them to more complex textures like meat or spaghetti with sauce without scaring them? The answer is with effective food progression broken down into manageable steps. This 2-hour webinar teaches strategies to develop food progressions and provides handouts and assisted practice developing food progressions to help children eat common foods. This course is included with the Early Childhood Webinar Package.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Recognize when a baby is ready to start eating purees as well as progress to slightly textured foods, dissolving hard solids, single texture soft mashables, and mixed textured soft mashables/Stage 3 foods.
  2. Identify developmentally appropriate strategies to assist babies in transitioning to more textured foods.
  3. Ascertain why it is important to know a child’s approximate gross motor skill level and oral motor skill level before creating a food progression.
  4. Distinguish useful strategies to assist picky eaters in learning to eat spaghetti with marinara sauce.
  5. Identify appropriate strategies to help picky eaters progress to eating chicken breasts.
