Sensory Integration Therapy for Early Intervention

Sensory integration starts before birth! Once the child is born, incorporating sensory-rich experiences is vital to a child’s development. This is especially important for children with developmental or physical disabilities. Research shows that early intervention has a positive impact, especially for children born prematurely. This 2-hour course targets early intervention occupational therapists working in the clinic or home setting. The presenter provides new treatment activity ideas including preparatory activities, sensory strategies to target a vast array of occupation-based skill sets, and ideas for parent training.

Learning Outcomes

  1. List three preparatory activities that target the vestibular system, the visual system, and the auditory system.
  2. Describe three preparatory activities to complete before a feeding session and how they will improve the child’s success.
  3. List three treatment activities that promote gross motor developmental milestones and primitive reflex integration in infancy that will improve overall success during daily occupations.
  4. State three treatment activities (preparatory OR occupation-based) that facilitate social engagement during functional activities.
